Comics Unboxed Review: Ultimate Spiderman #13

Jonathan Hickman and artist Marco Checchetto knock it out of the ballpark again.

In Ultimate Spider-Man #13, writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Marco Checchetto deliver a compelling narrative that pays homage to the classic "Kraven's Last Hunt" storyline while introducing fresh twists to the Spider-Man mythos.

The issue picks up a month after the dramatic events of issue #12, with Kraven the Hunter having captured and tormented Peter Parker and Harry Osborn. This captivity leads to intense psychological and physical challenges for both characters, highlighting their resilience and evolving dynamics. Meanwhile, Peter's son, Richard, steps into the Spider-Man role, donning a sentient black suit that adds layers of complexity to his burgeoning heroism.

The suit's design, reminiscent of the iconic Venom symbiote, raises questions about its true nature and potential influence on Richard's actions. Checchetto's artwork, complemented by Matthew Wilson's vibrant coloring, captures the tension and emotional depth of the story, particularly in the Savage Land sequences where Peter and Harry are hunted by Kraven. This issue masterfully balances action, character development, and suspense, setting the stage for intriguing developments in the series.
